High Holy Days Food Drive
Jewish Collaborative Services of Rhode Island (JCS) is hosting its annual statewide High Holy Days Food Drive from September 9 to October 14. Please consider participating by bringing non-perishable foods, household goods, and personal care goods to the Temple. All items will be accepted. Kosher food will go to the JCS Food Pantry. Non-kosher foods will be donated to West Bay Community Action. You can also participate electronically by visiting JCS's registry on Amazon.com or its registry on Walmart.com. |
WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 16, 6PM
Pizza in the Hut & Sushi in the Sukkah We'll be celebrating the first night of Sukkot with our annual "Pizza in the Hut & Sushi in the Sukkah" dinner outdoors (weather permitting). We'll gather in the Temple's sukkah for a brief festival service at 6PM and then enjoy a pizza and sushi dinner at 6:45PM. (The service will not be on Zoom). R.S.V.P. to the Temple office to let us know you're coming. The dinner is $10 for adults, $5 for children. |

Shabbat Service in the Sanctuary At our Shabbat evening service in the Sanctuary on Friday, October 18, Rabbi Goldwasser will reflect on the festival of Sukkot what it says about slowing down and finding peace in our restless times. Our Shabbat services are every Friday night at 6PM. Join in-person or on Zoom. The Zoom meeting opens 30 minutes before the service for socializing. |
SATURDAY, OCTOBER 19, 9:30AM
Shabbat Morning Breakfast & Torah Study Our Shabbat breakfast and Torah study meets in the Chapel every Saturday morning at 9:30 AM. A crew of volunteers prepares and serves the scrambled eggs, French toast, pancakes, and creamy oatmeal for all comers. Then, we'll really get cooking with study of the weekly Torah portion at 10:00 AM. When there is no bar or bat mitzvah, we enjoy an hour-long service, including Torah reading, at 11:00 AM. (The breakfast is completely free of charge. If you are looking for a way to contribute, we are always in need of people to help clean up). |
MONDAY, OCTOBER 21, 7PM
Pastor Chris Edmonds: The Footsteps of My Father Temple Sinai is hosting a program with Pastor Chris Edmonds, a retired Baptist minister whose father saved the lives of 200 Jewish American servicemen during World War II. Master Sergeant Roddie Edmonds refused at gunpoint to identify the Jewish American prisoners in a POW camp. The state of Israel posthumously awarded him the Righteous Among the Nations Award. Pastor Edmonds will talk about the need today for courageous action against hatred. Jointly sponsored by the Sandra Bornstein Holocaust Education Center and the Jewish Alliance. |

Simchat Torah Service Our celebration of Simchat Torah, the day of reading the very end and the very beginning of the Torah, will begin in the Sanctuary. After a brief festival service at 6PM, we'll parade the Torah scrolls in the Social Hall. (The service will not be on Zoom). |

People of the Book Temple Sinai's book club meets on the last Sunday of each month at the Temple. At our next meeting on Sunday, October 27 at 2PM, we will discuss Florence Adler Swims Forever by Rachel Beanland. All are welcome to join our lively and insightful conversation at the Temple. |
