Kosher Senior Café
NOTE: Due to the upcoming holy days, the Kosher Senior Café will not meet at Temple Sinai on September 15 and 22. Temple Sinai is a host site for Jewish Collaborative Services of Rhode Island's Kosher Senior Café. The program offers kosher meals and socializing for older adults and those with physical disabilities. Meals are served at Temple Sinai each Friday. Reservations are required two days in advance for meals, and there is a suggested donation of $3 per meal. There is no charge for scheduled social activities. Check out the JCS website for a link to a monthly calendar of programs and menus. To make a reservation, contact Neal Drobnis at neal@jfsri.org or 401-421-4111, ext. 107. |
Pizza in the Hut/Sushi in the Sukkah
Friday, September 29, we'll be celebrating the first night of Sukkot with a "Pizza in the Hut" and "Sushi in the Sukkah" dinner outdoors (weather permitting). We'll gather in the Temple's sukkah for a brief festival service at 6PM and then enjoy a pizza and sushi dinner at 6:45PM. (The service will not be on Zoom). R.S.V.P. to the Temple office to let us know you're coming. The dinner is $10 for adults, $5 for children. |
Shabbat Breakfast and Torah Study
For more than forty years, Temple Sinai has had a weekly breakfast and Torah study on Shabbat morning. Every Saturday at 9:30 AM, a crew of volunteers prepares and serves the scrambled eggs, french toast, pancakes, and creamy oatmeal for all comers. Then, we really get cooking with study of the weekly Torah portion. You can join the Torah study in person or on Zoom starting at 10:00 AM. An hour-long morning service, including Torah reading, begins at 11:00 AM. (The breakfast is completely free of charge. If you are looking for a way to contribute, we are always in need of people to help clean up). |
Sukkot Festival Service
Following the breakfast, our services for the first day of Sukkot will be in person in the Chapel and on Zoom on Saturday, September 30, at 11AM. We'll shake our lulavs and end our service outside in the Sukkah to make kiddush. It's a joyful holiday that's all about finding peace and contentment. |
Sinai Sock Hop
On Saturday, October 21, from 6PM to 10PM, in the beautiful, newly renovated Social Hall, we'll be putting on our poodle skirts, capri pants, skinny ties, and leather jackets for the Sinai Sock Hop. We'll enjoy a night of delicious food from More Than a Meal Catering (Amos House) featuring grilled boneless peach BBQ chicken and delicious sides (vegetarian options available, too). A DJ will be spinning the hits so you can cut a rug. There will be many cool items to bid on, including a private tour of Temple Member Jeff Goldstein's "Piston Palace." Tickets are $36 per person. Seating is limited so burn rubber and call or email Dotte at 401-9428350. You dig? |
Stranger/Sister
On Sunday, October 22, from 4PM to 7PM, Jewish and Muslim women will host a screening of the film "Stranger/Sister" at Temple Sinai. The documentary tells the story of the creation of Sisterhood of Salaam and Shalom (SOSS), a national organization that brings together Jewish and Muslim women to find meaning and connection. Following the film there will be a panel discussion and a light dinner to encourage further discussion and relationship-building. The event is open to all Jewish and Muslim women of Rhode Island, with an invitation to bring daughters, twelve years old and up. The event is free of charge and is underwritten by a grant from the Women's Alliance Endowment Fund. |
