CelebratingShabbat

CelebratingShabbat

Come to the Friday night and Saturday morning Shabbbat services that we hold every week. You can check our calendar for specific times. Friday night services are usually at 6:00 or 7:30 PM, and are either upstairs in our formal Sanctuary or downstairs in our cozy Chapel.

Twice a year, Rabbi Goldwasser leads an "Ask the Rabbi" service, in which he answers all questions about Jewish history, culture, belief, practice, and more.

On most Saturday mornings, services are held from 11:00 AM to noon in the Chapel following our Breakfast. Occasionally, we have a Mindfulness Shabbat service that focuses on chant, silence and meditation. On mornings when we are celebrating a Bar or Bat Mitzvah, the service begin at 11:00 AM upstairs in the Sanctuary.

The style of Shabbat worship at Temple Sinai is song-filled, joyful, and participatory. Everyone is welcome – members and non-members, Jews and non-Jews, children and adults. The service is conducted about half-and-half in English and Hebrew. Our prayerbooks include transliteration of all Hebrew passages so that everyone can participate. The rabbi offers a brief reflection on the weekly Torah portion, an upcoming holiday, or current world events at most services. Dress is generally casual, but a bit more formal when there is a bar or bat mitzvah. We sing. We talk. We meditate. We reflect. We find rest and comfort. We pray. We are saving a seat for you.
