Joint Reform Service at Temple Habonim
Every year, the Reform congregations of Rhode Island – Temple Sinai, Temple Beth-El, Temple Habonim, and the Newport Havurah – come together to celebrate Shabbat. This year's Joint Reform service will be at Temple Habonim, 165 New Meadow Road in Barrington. Join us for this special service on Friday, March 24, at 7:30 PM. Or watch the livestream on Temple Habonim's YouTube channel. There will be no service at Temple Sinai that evening. |
Shabbat Morning Breakfast and Torah Study
For more than forty years, Temple Sinai has had a weekly breakfast and Torah study on Shabbat morning. Every Saturday at 9:30 AM, a crew of volunteers prepare and serve the scrambled eggs, french toast, pancakes, and creamy oatmeal for all comers. Then, we really get cooking with study of the weekly Torah portion. You can join the Torah study in person or on Zoom starting at 10:00 AM. An hour-long morning service, including Torah reading, begins at 11:00 AM. (The breakfast is completely free of charge. If you are looking for a way to contribute, we are always in need of people to help clean up). |
Big Issues of Our Time
On one Wednesday of each month at 7PM, Rabbi Goldwasser leads an adult education course, "Big Issues of Our Time" on Zoom. Each month we will take on an issue in our society and probe Jewish perspectives and impact on the Jewish community. The next meeting will be on March 29 when we will talk about the new Israeli government and the controversy over democracy in Israel. (Note that this event is rescheduled from March 22). |
Second Night Passover Seder
We will gather in the Social Hall for a seder led by Rabbi Goldwasser on the evening of Thursday, April 6, at 5:30 PM. The seder will include a complete Passover dinner from soup to dessert. The cost is $36 for adults, $15 for children 6 to 12, and $5 for children 5 and under. Reservations and checks MUST be received by March 27 No Exceptions! |
Omer Study
Every year, we mark the journey our people made from slavery in Egypt to becoming the free people that stood together at Mount Sinai by counting the fifty days of the Omer. This period of reflection is traditionally fostered by the study of sacred texts. This year, a team of rabbis from small congregations brings you seven sessions on seven books of the Hebrew Bible. Join us on Zoom for one or more of the sessions as we delve into our textual tradition. Wednesdays at noon from April 12 to May 24. |
